...was curiosity and this text presents Philosopohy for the common reader with a small "p." The major thinkers from diverse cultures have their work summarised in a cogent style and the text is an excellent introductory text for anyone interested in the deeper ideas and impulses behind modern civilisation.

Great book to dip into and find many key themes and ideas. If you find it sparks an interest there are always more in-depth books to be had. This is a good intro for the casual reader.

I bought this book for my studies in A-Level philosophy - could not recommend a more accessible and thorough book.
Layout is great, and the writing style is easy to read without losing that distinct vocabulary used in philosophy.
Helping me a lot with my revision, would recommend it if you are doing a philosophy course or anyone who would like to get there eyes opened!

This book is extremly well written, written by many authors who specialise in different areas of philosophy. It is an excellent introduction to the subject, giving key works and their main ideas from philosophers through the ages. I especially liked how it states what branch each philospher specialised in and a 'see also' section. It is the best introduction I have came across.

Excellent handbook, very concise but clear and comprehensible. Useful diagrams and charts accompany every page (philosopher); it has good (reasonably short) introduction and last but not the least - the book covers many of the contemporary philosophers. I strongly recommend it for anyone wants to get acquaintance with most important philosophical currents.

Absolutely wonderful encyclopedia of philosophy. Explains each philosopher and their main ideas, however complicated they may be, coherently and concisely. Actually feel I could have real discussions and debates about the ideas now. Has been a great introduction for my Master in History of Political Thought course. Cannot recommend enough!

I love this book. It's one of the best intro/overview books I've read to the field(s) of philosophy. It's written and presented in a creative, accessible way. Great price too. Excellent. Also have a look at 'Philosophy' by David Papineau (Ed), another excellent intro/overview text.

This book is great. I brought the Psychology one first and since that was so good i decided to get this one too, needless to say i wasn't disappointed. It's split into time-scaled sections so everything is really easy to find, and personally i love the layout too.

The book contains all the major milestones in the history of philosophy. It is a good starting point to get involved into more serious studies. It is easy to browse and find those topics you might be more interested. I love this book of mine.
