My daughter (4) got this for her birthday and I am so impressed, I have got one for my nephew. The pictures are bright and interesting and it is a comprehensive guide to all animals. Lots of good facts are included to make it an interesting read without it being too large to use. It looks to me like it will last for a long while too and help with school wok in years to come.

This was for my daughter's 9th birthday. We didn't get the book in time for her actual birthday but the minute it got to our house she couldn't get her eyes off it. She loves nature and everything that has to do with animals so this book was a big hit. She loves flicking the pages and reading about the animals, checking out the icons that easily tells you the basics like how long this animal lives, where to find it, how big it is etc. Even me and my husband found it interesting to find out the life span of a shark or even an ant. My daughter and her younger brother (he is 6) asks for "Only 10 minutes Mama" every night before bed and sit in her bed together flicking the pages. This book will live a long life. Fantastic purchase.

This is an exclellent book, with plenty of interest in the colour photographs to keep children engrossed for ages. It is a good reference book, well written and printed on good quality paper. While it is written for children it is also a good reference for adults and can be a good source of conversation between adult and child.

We brought this book for our son when he was only 1 year old and he loved it. We would point out the animals and read the information to him. Now he is older he just takes it off the shelf and flicks through it pointing out all the animals himself. This book is a must for teaching children the animals of the world. It is well laid out and has very bright good photos of all the animals. Another good information book from Dorling Kindersley.

My seven year old chose this book to buy with his own pocket money (surprising on so many levels!) and just loves reading it either on his own of with one of us before going to bed. He has become fascinated with animals and started looking for television programmes about all types of wildlife also. A brilliant buy.

I purchased this book, as my 10 year old boy has a keen thirst for knowledge on anything to do with animals. We live in Spain, and he goes to a Spanish school, I wanted him to learn in English as well as Spanish about the various animal categories and classifications, so as not to limit his possibilities. This book is perfect. It is clear, concise and hugely interesting. The photos are excellent, and all in all I think it will be a book to treasure for many years to come. A recommended book for anyone with children.

This is the third 'Animals A Children's Encyclopedia I have bought for grandchildren, and it has been greatly appreciated. Covers all types of animals with wonderful pictures and is well worth the money. Interests both boys and girls alike, and is a way of stimulating their interest in wildlife. Suitable for ages from 9 to teens. An excellent book and I can thoroughily recommend it. There is also a Science Encyclopedia in the same series and that is excellent as well! Clare - Coleraine, NI.

As the headlines say, this was a gift for a 7 year old and he loved it.

The book looks good, feels good and has the usual DK high standard of production.

Quality text that is a bit hard for most 7 year olds, but they can access it in stages. Look and talk about the photos, get the captions and later on get into the text. This book will last as a good quality reference book even though we have the Internet.
Animals A Children's Encyclopedia (Visual Encyclopedia) is a good value book for mainly primary age children. Although it's quality means that adults are happy to read stuff out for children and enjoy flicking through it themselves.

WORTH THE MONEY

Got this for my 4 1/2 year old son who loves animals. This book is great for him. It's well organised and full of wonderful full page pictures, drawings and snippets of interesting info about each animal. Each animal has a picture, size comparison to humans, stats and a little paragraph of info. It's just the right amount to keep a young child interested. It hasn't got every single animal you can think of, but they've done a good job of mixing the most interesting with the most popular and everyday animal. All in all it's a lovely book and should keep his interest for a few years to come.
