4.0 out of 5 stars Most useful!
I bought this book to use on our most recent trip to the Alpujarras in Southern Spain. I'm a total novice when it comes to wild flowers, so the colour coded arrangement of the book was a real help. I managed to identify the majority of what I saw whilst out on walks, with one or two exceptions. But that is probably the price you pay for a book that is small enough to fit...

1.0 out of 5 stars backing split
I bought this for my mother-in-law because she was going on holiday to Spain and loves flowers. She only used it a couple of times before the backing split off the text. It looks a good book but she is a very tidy, careful person and has returned it to me because it looks about to disintegrate.

Verdict - A great compact field guide for a beginner, or for someone more experienced but new to the Mediterranean area.

I have bought several Mediterranean Wildflower books in the past to try to identify my local flora but none have been as comprehensive and easy to use as this book. It's sections by colour make identification easier and its size is ideal for carrying.

4.0 out of 5 stars A good guide for basic information, 8 Aug 2009

Mediterranean Wildflowers (Pocket Nature)

Having just returned from the South of France, I had time to read through the book from cover to cover. All the basic information needed is provided and, for a pocket guide, it's colourful and good for basic references. I would have appreciated further details pinpointing the actual countries in the Mediterranean where particular flowers may be found to help with looking out for what to expect. Certainly good value from Amazon.

4.0 out of 5 stars Meditterranean Wildflowers (Pocket Nature), 16 May 2011

For walkers who like to identify flowers along the way this is a perfect little book, partly because it slips neatly into a rucksack, and also because of its simple "colour" categorisation. This makes for an easy first identification, and we use it on regular walks in the foothills near the Eastern Pyrenees. It is not comprehensive, and we often find we need to pore through other tomes to identify more obscure wildflowers, but it is a handy start.

Now living in the South of France I kept gasping at the diverse and beautiful wild flowers growing in the countryside. Many were unfamilier and as I have always been interested in wildlife I had to have a book to help me identify them all. The pictures and info. are clear and detailed-wonderful and small enough to take out with me.

I bought several books on Mediterranean wild flowers. I would only have needed this one. It is informative, has lovely illustrations, and is light enough to carry around. Start with this book and get another as an add-on.

We bought this highly illustrated book for our Greek Island holiday because we hate not being able to identify the flora and fauna. The arrangement by colour was very helpful and we had some success in naming fabulous new flowers. It's clearly not exhaustive, but if it were it wouldn't fit in your pocket!
