5.0 out of 5 stars A very useful guide book
This is a very useful guide book. Whilst not as detailed as some guide books, all essential information is there and the illustrations are both attractive and informative. I have not spotted any factual errors (at least so far), although information can and does change. I am a Scot and have bought a copy of this book for non-Scottish friends planning a holiday in...

3.0 out of 5 stars D.K Scotland - A Good Guide To Mainland Scotland But........
Poor For The Scottish Islands!
We bought this guide when we were going on holiday to the Isle Of Skye and Perthshire. On the whole the guide was pretty good, but irritatingly there was very poor information on the Isle Of Skye (only 2 pages, of which 50% is a picture of some Loch)!
So, we ended up having to consult a £5.99 Ordnance Survey Map instead...

This review is from: Scotland (DK Eyewitness Travel Guide) (Paperback)
This is a very useful guide book. Whilst not as detailed as some guide books, all essential information is there and the illustrations are both attractive and informative. I have not spotted any factual errors (at least so far), although information can and does change. I am a Scot and have bought a copy of this book for non-Scottish friends planning a holiday in Scotland. It would also make a good souvenir of a Scottish holiday.

So, we ended up having to consult a £5.99 Ordnance Survey Map instead!
Fortunately the guide proved useful (luckily) when we arrived at Perthshire. There was very detailed info from a Whiskey Distillery (The Famous Grouse Experience) to
Glamis Castle (The Queen Mother's Childhood Home).
So on the whole I give this Guide Book 7.5/10

4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent guide to Scotland even if you're Scottish, 22 Mar 2001
By A Customer
We were looking for a Guide for things to do in Glasgow and the surrounding area and happened upon this book ! It provides an excellent guide to the whole of Scotland, even covering areas near to where we live that we never knew about ! The town center maps that are provided are very accurate and clearly understood, the Glasgow maps saved us getting lost on more than one occasion. This book is a must not only for the foreign tourist but the Scottish day tripper too !

5.0 out of 5 stars Really useful, 9 Jun 2009

We use these guides all the time for where ever we travel home or abroad. They are excellent at identifying at a glance things you will want to see with out the hassel of having to trawl through loads of writing to find something of interest. The pages are well organised with lots of colour photos and plenty of recomendations. A definite must if you dont like having to swat before going on holiday.

This is a handy touring guide covering the whole of Scotland. For the traveller, it includes all the information you'll ever need:

* A summary of the history and heritage of Scotland
* Scotland in the present day
* Scottish traditions (bagpipes, kilts, tartan...)
* Touring map of Scotland
* Streetplans of Edinburgh and Glasgow
* Places to eat
* A limited selection of serviced accommodation - no self-catering or camping
* Information for overseas visitors eg currency, health services, postal service, public transport and ferry services

For travel, it is conveniently divided into regions with each offering clear maps, colour photos and sketches of the main features of interest for each island (some info is a bit sketchy), region, town and village all written in a clear, straight-forward style providing just the right amount of detail. The photography is of a good standard and includes photographs by acclaimed photographer Joe Cornish (see also Scotland's Coast: A Photographer's Journey and Scotland's Mountains: A Landscape Photographer's View )

It is a convenient size to carry while travelling, has a stiffened protective oversized paperback cover and is the ideal guide for any visitor travelling by car.

I would highly recommend this to anyone planning to tour Scotland as a whole or a specific region and especially first-time and overseas visitors to Scotland.

5.0 out of 5 stars DK Eyewitness Travel Guides. Scotland, 24 Aug 2009
Scotland (DK Eyewitness Travel Guide)

Well presented, easy to use. Suffers from being "pocket" sized and therefore a bit limited in coverage of such a large and beautiful country. Otherwise very good at what it aims to do.

I have bought this item because I already own several Travel guides of this series. And again it was a good choice. The book gives useful information on trips by car, explains a lot about the history and geographic of Scotland and points out lots of highlights all over Scotland. Not to forget the included typical nicely illustrated city maps with recommended walks trough the cities.
