5.0 out of 5 stars A must read for everyone interested in food, eating and eating behaviour, 11 Oct 2010
This review is from: The Psychology of Eating: From Healthy to Disordered Behaviour (Paperback)
I thought this book was excellent. It provided a clear and easy to read synthesis of a huge field of study. It gives information from the medical, nutrition, sociological and psychological approaches and studies. There are a couple of paragraphs here and there that are quite dense and probably some understanding of psychology would be helpful in working through those bits. However overall it's easy to read, clear and to the point and provides one with a sense of the current research and thinking into each of the chapters. Having never read a "text book" type book from cover to cover, I was not only able to do so, but actually wanted to read it all. I would definitely recommend this.

5.0 out of 5 stars Ogden is brilliant, 14 Jun 2011
This review is from: The Psychology of Eating: From Healthy to Disordered Behaviour (Paperback)
I used this book specifically for an eating disorders module, and although the book is much broader than that in scope, it perfectly and clearly explained all elements of eating disorders that I required and more! Fantastically written with an author with obvious knowledge. The books itself exaplains concepts in an easy to understand and helpful way. I would recommend this book to a whole variety of students or those with interests in the field. In fact Jane Ogden is brilliant!

5.0 out of 5 stars A very good introduction, 15 Jun 2011
This review is from: The Psychology of Eating: From Healthy to Disordered Behaviour (Paperback)
I used this book specifically for the topic of eating disorders as part of my psychology degree. Whilst extra reading beyond this book may be necessary to get a more comprehensive and detailed understanding of theoretical perspectives and recent research regarding the onset of eating disorders, as a whole it offers a fantastic introduction to the psychology of eating and eating disorders. It is comprehensive enough to get a good well rounded understanding of the field, and is also written in a way that is easy to follow and understand. I would highly recommend this book as an introduction to the psychology of eating.

5.0 out of 5 stars The psychology of eating: From healthy to disordered behaviour, 31 May 2012
This review is from: The Psychology of Eating: From Healthy to Disordered Behaviour (Paperback)
I recently used this book to help with a section of my Ph.D. thesis on eating behaviour. I found it incredibly useful and considering I had been slogging through eating behaviour literature for weeks on end, it was wonderful to find a source of clarity and conciseness. It was nice to be able to skip to and from relevant topics without feeling the need to read the unneccessary sections. I highly recommend this book to anyone wanting to become more familiar with eating behaviours.

4.0 out of 5 stars Broad covery of the psychology of eating, 8 July 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: The Psychology of Eating: From Healthy to Disordered Behaviour (Paperback)
Covers a lot, interesting book. Was of great use when I wrote my bachelor thesis about how the thin ideal body in the media affects young women's health. I miss colors in the printing.
