1.0 out of 5 stars What a disappointment!
As an experienced stroke physio I was looked forward to reading this book.
What a disappointment!
It really is not up to modern standards and consistently fails to provide evidence for the effectiveness of Bobath methods. To me it reads as a description of a habit rather than an evidence based approach to rehabilitation.

As an experienced stroke physio I was looked forward to reading this book.
What a disappointment!
It really is not up to modern standards and consistently fails to provide evidence for the effectiveness of Bobath methods. To me it reads as a description of a habit rather than an evidence based approach to rehabilitation.

I realise my comments are in stark contrast to the above but I'm relieved to find that Dr Margaret Mayston (president of ACPIN) concluded "it does not make the mark as a book about Bobath" "this book will do little to quell the critics; in fact it will no doubt give them more fuel for the fire" (Synapse spring 2010).

Furthermore Dr Amanda Connell made the following comments "reads as a philosophical treatise as opposed to an evidence based approach" "the use of research to support the discussion is limited and biased" "reflecting the authors views that, in places, contradicts research findings" "prescriptive in its approach with limited exploration of clinical reasoning" (Physiotherapy 2010 vol 96 1).

Bought this book just before attending introductory Bobath modules. Book contains very useful texts and I am personally using it very often, coming back and reeding some chapters over and over again.
