4.0 out of 5 stars Very thorough, and a good read for history fans., 22 July 2002
This is a great book full of detail about the development of english. I'm interested in the Anglo-saxon and viking influences, and was very satisfied with the huge amount of information. There are also lots of facsimiles of documents, which is good. Could do with a new and less 'academic' cover though.

5.0 out of 5 stars Guide to English Language Development, 19 Sep 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: From Old English to Standard English: A Course Book in Language Variations Across Time (Studies in English Language) (Paperback)
The book was clear, well-explained and had plenty of manuscript facsimiles to practice on and reinforce what was said in the text. I would recommend it without question to tutors and students alike; it provides an excellent reference/teaching aid.
