Really clear, strong and helpful analysis which is all presented in a well structured manner. The different sections are really helpful.
I'm using Larkin as my dissertation focus at the moment and this book has been a brilliant guide into his most complex and unique pieces of work.

Does contain useful background information on his life story but I would have liked analysis on a wider range of his poetry.

Philip Larkin is a key figure to the understanding of what a lyric should look like in the mid-20th century. As a literature student, I had to study a wide range of Larkin's poems and some of them can be more challenging than others when we have to make an analysis of them. This book is a great help for anyone studying Larkin! Not only does it provide chapters that identify Larkin's main themes and illustrates them with poems, but also provides you questions at the end of each chapter. The last chapter even organizes Larkin's main themes so that you can assimilate the information in a more clear way, Totally recommend to anyone studying the poet or for those who are simply interested in his work.
