This review is from: Green Lantern Emerald Warriors TP Vol 01 (Green Lantern Graphic Novels) (Paperback)
This volume reprints Green Lantern - Emerald Warriors issues #1-7. Although the story is `stand-alone', it ties in with the Brightest Day and Blackest Night events and moves the `bigger picture' closer to the War of the Green Lanterns which occurs next. This is a Green Lantern Corps adventure, with Guy Gardner as the lead, accompanied by Killowog and Arisia. Guy wants to explore the `Unknown Sectors', where he believes a threat id building - I can't recall mention of these Unknown Sectors, but I may not have been paying attention, these things tend to be hidden away in back-issues long before they reach the foreground. The Guardians eventually let him off the leash, but send Killowog and Arisia along to keep an eye on him. He eventually has to reveal to them the deal that he and Ganthet made with Atrocitus - shown in previous Brightest Day - Green Lantern volumes, and what brought that alliance about, originally triggered by the continuing Red Lantern infection that has been plaguing Gardner since he wore a Red Lantern Ring in the Blackest Night. The three of them, accompanied by Red Lantern Bleez, eventually find their way to the mysterious enemy in the Unknown Sector, who has been busy corrupting trainee Green Lanterns. Sodam Yat of Daxxam is also tied in to the storyline, as is the Brightest Day adversary who's identity was recently revealed in Green Lantern - Brightest Day, as he gave Yat a new Green Lantern ring there, which was infected with something...

This is an excellent stand-alone Green Lantern volume with a well-connected story and superb artwork. However, there are confusing patches in the storyline, especially in the final chapter.

4.0 out of 5 stars Guy Gardner working alongside Atrocitus?, 13 Jun 2013
This review is from: Green Lantern Emerald Warriors TP Vol 01 (Green Lantern Graphic Novels) (Paperback)
Guy Gardner and the former guardian of the universe Ganthet have made a blood pact with Atrocitus the murderous leader of the Red Lantern Corps. Guy embarks on a journey to the unknown sectors with his fellow green lanterns Kilowog and Arisia to try and find out who is draining the corps power rings. This is probably the first GL graphic novel by Peter J. Tomasi that I have actually enjoyed. The artwork is also a huge improvement over the GLC graphic novels.

**SPOILER**
The only problem I have with Emerald Warriors is the way it ends. We never see or hear about the villain who manages to escape (not even in the New 52, at least not in any of the GL comics). Also there is a Green Lantern I won't name who plays a part in Emerald Warriors and is taken hostage by the villain whose fate is also left as unknown. Still, I recommend Emerald Warriors if you're planning on reading War Of The Green Lanterns.
