second collection of issues from american virgin, a comic from dc comics vertigo imprint, who issue stories that are adult themed and deal with mature issues and are thus strictly not for children.

This is the story of adam chamberlain, a tv evangelist who runs a popular campaign encouraging people to remain virgins till they get married. His world has just been shattered by the loss of a loved one and this has thrust him into new situations. he was a virgin about life before, but not now. hence the title.

This collects issues 5-8, and covers the second story arc of the series. you could possibly pick the story up if you haven't read the first four issues but I recommend starting with those as you'll get more out of the story as a result [these are in the trade paperback american virgin: head]

anyway, in these issues work and a chance for revenge against those who shattered his world take adam to australia. In the company of his half sister and a ruthless mercenary, adam has a few more eye opening experiences.

This is an entertaining series, with a good cast of characters and some nice artwork. The story is also very involving. If you got hooked on it via the first collection, then you should enjoy this as well

This is the second volume in the American Virgin series which tells the story of Adam Chamberlain, a youth minister and advocate of sexual abstinence. Adam believed that his lifelong sexual partner had been preordained by God, so when she is brutally murdered whilst in Africa, Adam has been forced to make some tough choices about what he wants to do.

This volume sees Adam in Australia, with his step-sister, following a lead which will enable him to find his girlfriend's killers. Strangely, this sends him into the sexual subculture of Melbourne. Adam spends much of the novel grappling with challenges to his preconceived ideas and whether perusing Cassandra's killers is morally right.

I have to admit that I didn't enjoy this instalment as much as the first one. The story seemed to be horn shoed so that Adam would feel as sexually uncomfortable as possible and this seemed not only unrealistic but also unnecessary.

I do maintain that although this is a novel for mature readers, it isn't as salacious as the cover would imply and it raises some important questions for debate amongst teenagers. I'm hoping that the next instalment returns to the quality of the first volume.
