Garten is my idol, my idea of a great cook. Besides reading and using her many cookbooks, she can be seen weekly on the Food Network Channel. Her cooking is supreme and delicious, and she is able to show us that her recipes are simple and easy for all.
Now The Barefoot Contessa goes to Paris. Ina Garten had always dreamed of Paris since her parents brought her a dress from Paris when she was three years old. She and her adored husband, Jeffrey, first went to France and camped out and cooked over a fire and were able to eat very well for a mere pittance. The next time they went to Paris it was with style. Now, they own an apartment, and Ina Garten gives us the best recipes of the day. Plus, she tells us the best places to buy specialty foods,
cheese, pastries and chocolate, wine, cook and bake ware. The best place to buy flowers, and the very best restaurants with a small snippet of info for each.
The cookbook is separated into the usual sort of recipes- "To Start", Lunch, Soup and Salads, Dinner, Vegetables and Dessert. Beef Bourguignon- Ina tells us how to make this lucious stew within 90 mins. - easy and delicious. Beef au Poivre, all the flavor without the hassle- Veal chops with Roquefort Butter and Lamb with White Beans. The veggies are wonderful- green beans done the French way, Cauliflower gratin, and Asparagus with Hollandaise. The desserts are to die for, Meringue Chantilly, Pear Clafouti, Chocolate Orange Mousse, Chocolate Truffles and of course, Crème Brulee. Every recipe I have tried from Ina Garten's cookbooks has been superb. She never steers us wrong, and always has wonderful hints and great information about the food we are about to eat!
The pictures in this cookbook were photographed by Quentin Bacon, and they are lovely and vibrant. This is a beautiful cookbook, lovely to look at, and just wait until you make this food and present it to your family and/or friends. Yum, yum, So very highly recommended. prisrob

This is a gorgeous book with fabulous photography and nice shiny paper easy to wipe clean any spills.I like Contessa's style although the calorie count of any one recipie must be in the thousands!!If I had one gripe a little index of american ingredients would be helpful..ie kosher salt?corn syrup?cold criso?and the recipie for rum baba uses 1 package of dry yeast, what size is a package in america.overall tho its worth buying,Im going to buy another of her books.

Even if you haven't seen this cook on TV you will certainly enjoy her memories of living in Paris and learning about French food. I bought this book as a present for my daughter in law who loves to make and eat the recipes. My first experience of French cooking was many years ago when I spent 6 months working in a hotel. This book brings all the atmosphere of Paris and a joy to read.

I bought 'in Paris' 'Family Style' & 'Back to Basics' as a Christmas present for my wife. Review for Barefoot in Paris -
I read it and just loved the in between sections e.g Cheese section & table dressing, quite interesting & different from most cook books. For me the recipes read OK, but the wife really likes it. Photography is very good too.
Negatives are - all her books are designed more towards the American market. There could be a measurement conversion included and little things (this is the wife now) such as the wording i.e 'a stick of butter'? might be better explained or quantified.
All said, this book especially, was interesting and I would not hesitate to recommend. A good buy!

I have a good many on Ina Garten's cookbooks, but this one is by far my favorite! It contains easy, very French recipes, but also Miss Garten's view on Paris, which also happens to be one of my own favorite cities. Fantastic cookbook!

THIS COOKBOOK IS FANTASTIC AS IS INA GARTEN., THE RECIPES AND METHODS ARE EASY TO FOLLOW., PLEASE TRY THE COEUR A LA CREME' RECIPE FOR A SPECIAL OCCASION, IT IS FABULOUS AND CAUSED QUITE A SENSATION WHEN I MADE IT FOR SOME CLOSE FRIENDS., I HAVE FOUND THAT OVERALL THE INGREDIENTS INA USES CAN BE PURCHASED AND CERTAINLY SUBSTITUTED WITH BRITISH INGREDIENTS, PERHAPS SOMETIMES WITH A LITTLE TRIAL AND ERROR BUT THAT'S THE PLEASURE OF COOKING, BUT, ALWAYS SUCCESSFUL. I AM NOW AWAITING DELIVERY THE LAST BOOK IN MY COLLECTION (PARTIES) THEN I ALMOST HAVE THEM ALL. ANYWAY HIGHLY RECOMMENDED..SHE'S MY HEROINE BRILLIANT........

Lovely book.

The recipes are just great.

The bistro recipes are delightful.

The country style along the more sophisticated,
tradtional French family celebration meals are
all beautifully presented.

As ever, ingredients and method short and to the point.

Vive La Barefoot Contessa
