The Cosmos provides an excellent introduction to the universe. The photographs are simply amazing, the text is clear and "accessible". The pages are physically heavy, probably to prevent bleed. This does, however, make the book very heavy--too heavy for the relatively flimsy covers. Covers that are appropriate to the physical attributes of the book would make it a better purchase. Published in the autumn of 2013, it was already out of date. Were I designing such a book, which treats on topics that change, expand, or are re-interpreted almost daily, I'd provide it five-hole punched in a ring binder, with pages numbered by section/chapter. This design would accommodate easy and regular updates, probably on subscription, to keep the book at the top of its league.
I want to give this book 4.5 stars. That' s 4.5 stars for the content at the time of publication, and 4.5 for the book design.
