This is a lovely description of the author's journey to discover his multiple roots in Japan and Europe. He grew up in Yokohama as a descendent of a German family that had started a business soon after Japan was opened up to foreigners in the mid-nineteenth century. In the course of his research into his family tree he finds many unexpected relatives. The difficulties faced by people with multiple ethnic and cultural origins are sensitively explored, as they concern himself, his family and his adopted children. The result is one of the most interesting books I have read in the past few years.

This review is from: Yokohama Yankee: My Family's Five Generations as Outsiders in Japan (Paperback)
Well researched, and easy to read. But may only appal to a limited group of readers.
I wm enjoying it as I have lived in Japan for some years, and am interested in the history of The Far East.
