1.0 out of 5 stars Very disappointing, 3 Nov 2011
This review is from: Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Muggles To Magic (Paperback)
I was very disappointed with this book. A very thin, floppy glossy paperback, the contents of which were totally uninspiring, and had little to do with Harry Potter. The pages reminded me of those home-produced recipe books, which used to be sold in aid of Girl Guide, Mother and Toddler and Church Women's Guild groups. The illustrations were black and white photocopies which were dark and unclear, and as a result, thoroughly unappetising. Definitely not worth the money. I have shopped successfully with Amazon for a long time - this is the first item I have ever felt obliged to return.

1.0 out of 5 stars Absolutely awful - do not buy!, 21 Dec 2011
This review is from: Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Muggles To Magic (Paperback)
I foolishly didn't read the reviews before adding this to my wishlist. It is beyond awful. How this ever found a publisher, I don't know.

AWFUL, AWFUL images, that look like poorly photocopied black and white photos. Completely useless recipes, the majority of which bare little or no resemblance to anything in Harry Potter. Totally disappointed; I had planned to have a cookery session with the young 'uns, but would actually be embarrassed for ANYONE to see this book, it is SO AWFUL.

Do yourself a favour and DO NOT BUY.

1.0 out of 5 stars Officially Rubbish!, 16 Aug 2011
By
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Muggles To Magic (Paperback)
This is a book which I have bought and am going to end up returning as it is so bad.

Firstly a lot of the recipes have nothing to do with Harry Potter at all such as lasagna or wiggle worm pudding.

There are a couple of nice recipes in there but they have ingredients which can only be bought in the USA such as canned pumpkin puree or specific brands of biscuits.

Even if you do manage to find a recipe which you both want to make and can find all of the ingredients for the book are in American measurements with no conversion guide to either translate into pounds and ounces or grammes. Yes you can find guides online to convert measurements but it is a load of hassle.

Add to that the "fun facts" about Britain such as yorkshire pudding is originally a dessert (where did she get that from?) and the fact that the book has mis-spellings (Hermoime instead of Hermoine in one of the recipe titles) and it is truly awful and a complete waste of money.

1.0 out of 5 stars don't buy, 26 Jan 2012

This has taught me to always check the review, I should not have bought it. It is a shocking waste of money I do not understand how it was published.

1.0 out of 5 stars Uninspiring, 25 Nov 2013
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Unofficial Harry Potter Cookbook: From Muggles To Magic (Paperback)
I bought this as an avid fan of Harry Potter, wanting to create a feast of things like pumpkin pasties, cauldron cakes, firewhiskey etc. But all I found here were regular recipes, rather dull recipes if you ask me, given Potter-esque names. I feel both unimpressed and let down, and feel like some of the praise given to the author may not be quite due. Sorry, would not recommend xxx
