5.0 out of 5 stars ESSENTIAL DOCUMENT OF MISUNDERSTOOD GENIUS., 11 Mar. 2011

This is a truly weighty tome packed with unseen and rare archival photos of the mighty HELLHAMMER.
This band were much maligned, particularly by the UK Metal press, during their short lifespan. It has probably only been over the last half-decade that even TOM G. WARRIOR himself has ceased to denounce the supreme art that he conceived.
This is a truly essential document of a deservedly legendary band.

4.0 out of 5 stars packed with info and photos, a little thin on music analysis, 2 Oct. 2010
This review is from: Only Death is Real (Hardcover)
It would've been nice to see a bit more analysis of the evolution of their writing style, but they cover well the influences and circumstances that shaped them (make no mistake, this is not a typical 'sex, drugs & rock n roll' bit of worthless literature. It IS an illuminating read). Bound to appeal to any old-school 'head or Hellhammer/Celtic Frost fanatic for the sheer wealth of photos and background stories. Pretty inspiring too to read about just how naive but utterly determined they were back in the early days.

5.0 out of 5 stars A must buy for any metalhead's library, 2 Feb. 2015

If you were ever curious about what it was like to be in a band in the days before the internet and high tech equipment, but to also face obstacles and ridicule on a regular basis, this is a very good example. Through sheer determination Tom G created something special, though at the time few would have agreed. Not just something musical but something atmospheric, something that takes you a certain place. And now we can read all about this place, a bunker out in the hills between two villages in Switzerland where slowly but surely, something historic was born.
This book is very well written by Mr Fischer, making it easy to read - do not be deterred by the physical size of the book. By my own admission, I am not a huge book reader; I lack the patience. So to read this book in one sitting and be completely drawn into it is a testament to the author. Lots of pictures in the book to accompany the intriguing story, which should ask act as an inspiration to would be musicians to never give up, as well as a reminder how easy it is to make music in today's day and age.

5.0 out of 5 stars Tom's excellent book on Hellhammer/Celtic Frost., 26 Nov. 2012

Fantastic pictures throughout this book, Tom & Martin's written text is also very informative and interesting. As a result of reading this I've dug out all my old CF records and listened to them again. I believe that if a book makes you want to go back and re-listen to a band's catalog then it's certainly done it's job. This takes you right back to the early/mid 80s when bands attempted to write original music with a creative flair. Hellhammer and Frost managed to do this so well that when you listen to them today the music is not dated or tired. It stands up so incredibly well.
If you are a new or old fan then this book is a must, let's hope that Tom produces a follow up that charts the rest of the history as this one ends in 1985. C'mon Tom - treat us to more amazing stories!

5.0 out of 5 stars Best article for the sharpest price., 20 Aug. 2010
This review is from: Only Death is Real (Hardcover)
Looking around for this particular item learned that Amazon offered the best price!! If item would be ordered in a Belgian bookshop; the difference would be at least 10 euro!!
So Amazon is recommended for this item; and not this item only!!
Cheers,
Peter
