5.0 out of 5 stars The Gateway to the Distilleries, 23 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Malt Whisky Yearbook 2014: The Facts, the People, the News, the Stories (Paperback)
This latetest edition of Ingvar Ronde's Malt Whisky Yearbook should be in the hands of all whisky enthusiasts. 298 pages are fully packed with detailed information about whisky distilling, marketing and trends. More than 200 tasting notes help for a better orientation in the vast whisk(e)y market. Of course, Scotland is given the most attention, however, recent activities in whisky distilling in Europe, Japan, the U.S., Canada and around the world are also described. More than 200 Malt Distilleries are covered in detail, their history and releases, their production capacity etc. Hundreds of photos make for atmosphere and better unterstanding. Background stories of world famous Blended Scotch whiskies are also presented. Renowned whisky experts such as Charles MacLean, Gavin D Smith, Dominic Roskrow, Ian Buxton, Neil Ridley and Ian Wisniewski discuss topics of general interest. Ingvar's section about closed Scottish distilleries is very impressive. Books to read, websites to look at, lists of independent bottlers, whisky shops worldwide plus statistical data make this book highly valuable. Although a list of major whisky festivals and their dates is missing. Nevertheless, Ingvar Ronde's 9th edition of 2014 is a real gem which you can easily afford. Reading the book is just a delight and very helpful for better orientation in the world of whisk(e)y. Good binding and perfect page layout. Ernie, The Gateway to Distilleries.

5.0 out of 5 stars Excellent as always, 29 Oct. 2013
This review is from: Malt Whisky Yearbook 2014: The Facts, the People, the News, the Stories (Paperback)
A fine book, covering facts not only on each Scotch single malt distillery, but also world malt distillery, including all the recent changes that took place in them during the last 12 months, as well as a review of the industry and changes that occurred in 2013.
A very good book for anyone whishing to stay up to date with what is going on in the world of single malts and blended Scotch whiskies.

4.0 out of 5 stars better than many others, 25 April 2014
This review is from: Malt Whisky Yearbook 2014: The Facts, the People, the News, the Stories (Paperback)
I have avoided the Yearbooks, beleiving that they were just another whisky book. Wrongly so. The reviews of the distilleries and the limited tasting notes are no better, and no worse than many available elsewhere, but where this book scores is its wider coverage, including the seemingly constant changes of ownership within the industry, and covering independant bottlers, blends and a much wider and more informative view of the whisky world in general. I think the yearbook could become my annual purchase in respect of whisky books

I have now got the last 3 year books. I have found the facts about the individual distilleries of great interest I am a drinker of the water of life. I have given it four stars as my top rating. I have a group of friends and I will be promoting this book to them over another well known whiskey publication which I have collected since it started.

Good work guys. Nice annual this.

Love it. Plenty of detail. Not strong on tasting notes for products but good for general overviews of trends and individual distilleries (mainly Diageo owned).

Informative stuff.

Cheers
