The World's Best Tax Havens 2014/2015: How to Cut Your Taxes to Zero & Safeguard Your Financial Freedom by Lee Hadnum is a comprehensive look at some of the tax havens on earth. A tax haven is simply a country that allows you to reduce the amount of tax you pay. The world’s best tax havens, according to Lee Hadnum are Andorra, Anguilla, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, The British Virgin Islands (BVI), Campione, The Cayman Islands, The Channel Islands, The Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Dubai, Eastern Europe, Gibraltar, Hong Kong, Ireland, Isle of Man, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, Panama, Seychelles, Singapore, St Kitts and Nevis, Switzerland, and the Turks and Caicos Islands (TCI).

Offshore tax planning has two key components: Understanding the tax rules in your current country of residence, and understanding the tax regimes of other countries. The World's Best Tax Havens 2014/2015 is concerned mainly with the second component: identifying countries that have low tax rates and offer you the opportunity to pay less tax. It contains eleven well-defined chapters: How Tax Havens Can Help You, The World’s Best Tax Havens, Living in a Tax Haven, How Offshore Trusts Can Help You, Escaping the Taxman’s Clutches, How an Offshore Company Can Help You, How Big Companies and the Rich Use Tax Havens, Protecting Your Privacy with Nominees, How to Avoid the EU Savings Tax Directive, The Tremendous Benefits of Double Tax Treaties, and lastly, Other Important Tax Haven Benefits.

The World's Best Tax Havens 2014/2015: How to Cut Your Taxes to Zero & Safeguard Your Financial Freedom by Lee Hadnum is a useful and resourceful guide that takes a look at how tax havens can be used to cut your tax bill and used to your advantage.

4.0 out of 5 stars Find out how the other half lives!, 23 Aug 2013
This review is from: The World's Best Tax Havens: How to Cut Your Taxes to Zero & Safeguard Your Financial Freedom (Paperback)
I'm by no means a tax expert, but I was curious about how tax havens are work and what it takes to manage them effectively. The World's Best Tax Havens certainly kept its promise. Not only was I introduced to the locations themselves, but the author also painted a vivid picture of life in these locales.

The concepts in the book are explained in such a way that they can be easily understood by the lay person. Even if you don't apply the methods contained here, it's certainly an interesting read that provides some insight into how the "other half" lives.

4.0 out of 5 stars For the uninitiated, this book is a goldmine of information, 23 Aug 2013
By
Grady Harp (Los Angeles, CA United States) - See all my reviews
(REAL NAME)
Lee Haddam has assembled a book about saving money on taxes in that area of expertise most of us think is the purview of only the very wealthy. Tax havens are real and though the twenty five `world's best tax havens' are described in detail and the variations in the laws as far as residency requirements and banking practices of each may vary, the fundamentals are here for our edification. This, by the way, is an updated 2013 edition of the book so the information is current and has withstood inspection!

Hadnum spends adequate time explaining the concept of tax havens, the risks and the safety nets alike, presents both corporate and individual uses of these advantages to reduce reportable income, how big companies and the rich use tax havens to lower their taxes and keep their wealth strictly private and protected from the outside world, and then goes into considerable detail about the tax havens he considers best. Some of these will surprise, others not: Andorra, Anguilla, The Bahamas, Barbados, Belize, Bermuda, The British Virgin Islands, The Cayman Islands, The Cook Islands, Costa Rica, Cyprus, Dubai, Eastern Europe, Gibraltar, Guernsey/Jersey, Ireland, The Isle of Man, Liechtenstein, Malta, Monaco, Panama, Switzerland, Turks and Caicos Islands and more. Every haven is discussed in detail.

The second half of the book is more general informational for first-timers - and how many people actually know about how to legally avoid the new European Savings Tax Directive, how to set up and use offshore companies and trusts, the tremendous benefits of foundations when it comes to protecting privacy, recent G20 changes and more.

So if your income needs a bit of protection, this book supplies it in spades! It is readable, easy to understand (even for neophytes) and worth exploring. Grady Harp, August 13

5.0 out of 5 stars A very informative and entertaining read., 21 Aug 2013
This review is from: The World's Best Tax Havens: How to Cut Your Taxes to Zero & Safeguard Your Financial Freedom (Paperback)
Two enormous thumbs up for Lee Hadnum.

With "The World's Best Tax Havens" he has pulled off a remarkable feat in writing a truly entertaining book on a subject long considered irksome at best by most people. How often does one pick up a tax book that reads as fluidly as a bestseller thriller because that is precisely what you get with this title. And not at the expense of accuracy or informative advice either.

Employing a conversational tone (as though you and he are having a casual chat as opposed to lecturing) Lee Hadnum starts off by explaining what a tax haven is and the options available. He keeps it so simple and straightforward that even a child would have no problem following. And just to make sure that there is absolutely no confusion he backs up each explanation with a simple yet surprisingly illustrative example.

Next he tackles each tax haven on a case-by-case basis where he opens by describing the type of haven involved be it a: 1) Nil-tax haven; 2) Foreign source exempt haven; or 3) a Low-tax haven. After that he continues with an in-depth analysis of the pros and cons (if any) of that particular tax haven, always supplementing with hard facts, percentages and figures.

Where this tax book really outshines its contemporaries is the way in which the author goes that extra mile in describing the practical realities involved if one relocates to a particular tax haven. Here he breaks down the cost of living, the cultural scene, the weather as well as the level of crime (which is a nice touch, after all what's the point of saving as much of your money from the tax man just to be relieved of it by some hooligan?).

Different countries have different requirements and associations with the various tax havens and this book leaves no stone unturned in explaining those differences. For example some countries have CFC laws designed to prevent people from benefiting from tax havens despite the fact that they are resident in the tax haven.

Describing everything that this excellent book has to offer would necessitate writing another book in and of itself. However suffice it to say you can only benefit tremendously from this book and will certainly get a fun education in not just tax havens but tax law in general.

4.0 out of 5 stars Great reference book, 19 Aug 2013
This review is from: The World's Best Tax Havens: How to Cut Your Taxes to Zero & Safeguard Your Financial Freedom (Paperback)
The World's Best Tax Havens: How to Cut Your Taxes to Zero & Safeguard Your Financial Freedom by Lee Hadnum is 256 page guide, edition 2013/14. It includes the newest laws and regulations for the countries included. Hadnum has both legal and chartered accountancy qualifications, please read his impressive bio.

While I'm a newbie to offshore tax planning, Hadnum was concise and laid the book out in easy to understand terms. The book is primarily geared toward the UK audience but I still learned a lot. He breaks down complex laws so you can decide which way is best for you and warns you of potential pitfalls. I feel like I understand enough basic knowledge that I could put the ground work together for future endeavors. The tax havens and tax planning information is invaluable. I recommend this as a reference book.

3.0 out of 5 stars The World's Best Tax Havens, 14 Aug 2013

You will learn about the best tax havens the world over and how you can take advantage of them. Lee Hadnum shows us how the rich, famous and big corporations use those tax havens all the time to keep their money in their pockets.

While this is not in anyway a replacement for an experienced tax attorney it is a great way to learn about the different options that you can discuss with your tax preparer. Hadnum is one of the best there is when it comes to British tax law and therefore any of his books are must have for any library.
