2.0 out of 5 stars Too short and poorly written
This had the potential to be a good book but sadly it very much failed to be one . As another reviewer said , it ends up being little more than a list of tournament placings , very little insight into playing on tour , he even makes very little of how he's overcome his illness to reach the level he has . 5.0 out of 5 stars The way eye see the game, 15 Jun 2013
This review is from: The Way Eye See The Game - The Jamie Caven Story (Paperback)
An excellent read ,showing what you can achieve through determination and dedication to your chosen sport ,you don't have to be a darts fan to be inspired by Jamie's life story and what he has had to go through to get where he is today ,it's a well written book and I thoroughly recommend it to anyone

4.0 out of 5 stars Eye Eye!!, 22 May 2013

Having known Jamie for many a year now, got to say an interesting insight to his life so far. He is one of the top guys from the game and that shows every time you meet up with him. A good read for many that do not know what a professional dart player does in his normal life.

This book is an excellent read! It tells a true story of somebody that has had a lot to overcome to get where they want to be. It is an inspirational story about Jamie and his blindness and diabetes.

As another reviewer said , it ends up being little more than a list of tournament placings , very little insight into playing on tour , he even makes very little of how he's overcome his illness to reach the level he has . The book switches from one period of his life to another with scant regard to whether it actually reads properly , in conclusion a poorly written book which lacks detail , a disappointing read .

2.0 out of 5 stars Inspiring story but poorly written, 18 Oct 2013
This review is from: The Way Eye See The Game - The Jamie Caven Story (Paperback)
Don't get me wrong, the book tells an inspiring story of the things Jamie Caven has overcome to become a well-respected darts player, but I found the book to be very poorly written.

The thematic approach, as opposed to it being chronological, makes it difficult to follow. Little is made of his blindness, in fact hardly anything at all apart from to say it happened when he was young and he got used to it as a result. There is also little made of his diabetes, one minute he is talking about collapsing at a tournament, the next we've moved on with little explanation as to why he collapsed/the repercussions of it, how he got over it etc.

Other little anecdotes are repeated which is quite annoying, pictures are inserted with no real explanation of the people in them and as the book progresses it becomes more of a list of results than anything else. He describes little of the tournaments he played in, particular highlights from doing so etc only 'I played in X tournament and reached the X round'. You can do a quick internet search if you're after that sort of information, I expected the book to have more of the story behind these results.

There is undoubtedly a story here, despite his career still being in its relative infancy, but this book just does not convey it at all well.
