This review is from: Adventures with Letters: A Memoir by Michael Harvey (Hardcover)
Michael Harvey is one of those jewels of British culture known only to those with an interest in lettering. This book covers the gamut of his working life, from his time with the wood-engraver Reynolds Stone in the 50s, through a lifetime of professional lettering in stone, wood and paper to a great flowering of type design, for Monotype, Adobe and, in recent years, his own foundry.

This book contains mostly pictures of the work produced during that time, and as such is a terrific resource and an inspiration. The range of book jackets from the 50s to the 80s is a fascinating collection in itself. The scope of the work and the pithy text that accompanies it will come as no surprise to many who have been taught by Michael over the years. It was designed by him and published under his 47 Editions imprint, so despite the straightforward 25 price tag, it has been produced to an unusually high standard. Not sure how many were printed, but if this is the sort of thing that might interest you, I wouldn't hang about.
