A quite exceptional insight into an extraordinary location. Nick Catford's photography is restrained and thought provoking, the book is produced to a high standard and for all those who wondered what our government was up to during the cold war and how it intended to survive - and where - this is the strange answer. Although the photography alone is worth the purchase price, finding that Nick McCamley had contributed to the book with an extensive historical overview is an added bonus. The book forms a virtual tour of the complex, which is surprisingly personal and intimate in view of the objects portrayed amongst the underground structure. Recomended for anyone who ever wondered how far we went as a country to prepare for a war that never came.

Of the many books on Cold War plans & architecture that I have, this is right at the very top. A good narrative, supported by excellent pictures of the myriad features of this unique site. Worth every penny and I’m now buying the other books that Nick Catford has written.

Another excellent book that's come from Folly Books. I grew up close to these sites & was fortunate to see inside Monkton Farleigh mines & a small section of the site at Corsham. I've wanted to know more ever since. Nice to see even more photos in this book than you can find on the internet (at least from what I've seen anyway). Its a little wordy to start with but then springs into lots of lovely clear photos. A good buy if this is your kind of thing.

Just received this book today, so haven't really had a chance to read it completely yet. However, just flicking through this superb book reveals page after page of glorious pictures (almost all colour) of Burlington and its innards. This is a place that until quite recently was kept secret from us, now, this book provides us with a plethora of superb pictures.
Congratulations Nick on another superb book, if you like this, you will almost certainly like "Cold War Bunkers", which is also available here on Amazon.
So, summing up, Well researched, superbly written, magnificent pictures. Highly recommended, treat yourself, you won't regret it.
