4.0 out of 5 stars Honest and Straight talking
An honest, no frills, warts and all straight talking review of his life in and out of football the book totally sums up the man. Southall holds nothing back and what comes through is his passion for the game and for doing the right things in life as is evidenced by the work he now carries out with troubled young people.

The book paints a vivid picture of...

3.0 out of 5 stars Loved the man
I watched big Nev from when he first signed for Everton from Bury, saw him have the odd poor game then grow into the worlds greatest goalkeeper.

This book though a good insight into the man himself, leaves a little bit to be desired on the sporting autobiography front mainly because (and I think all sports fans want to know the nitty gritty) he didn't drink or...

3.0 out of 5 stars The big man review, 27 May 2013

A nice honest book...
Lacking cutting edge and the extra elements that make a book a compelling read.

Easy to read and put down.

4.0 out of 5 stars Not bad for a binman, 25 Feb 2013

This review is from: Neville Southall: The Binman Chronicles (Hardcover)
Growing up as a young lad in the 80's and playing in the goals for the school football team I was full of admiration for Neville Southall who I believe was the best goalkeeper in the world during that era.
I have read Neville's other books and bought this by default.
After the previous couple of books being more about the playing side and technique I thought this would have been a more personal insight to the man but in majority it was more about the football again.
Overall still a very good read though.

3.0 out of 5 stars Great Keeper - mediocre book, 29 Oct 2012
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
Neville Southall was and still is the best keeper I have ever seen. Yes I see everything in blue tinted glasses but that is another story. A complex character it seems was our Nev but really glad he has found his niche in life dealing with wayward youngsters. The chronicles of his life are hardly chronicles - in fact snippets of memories of days gone by.A couple of interesting errors as well - Graeme Sharpe came from Dumbarton not Dunfermline and the other I cannot remember without a reread. Thereby lies the answer to the review - can't really be bothered.A book for the Evertonians but there are certainly many other worthwhile reads. A bit disappointing.
