This is a wonderful book and it's been a pleasure reading it. If you are interested in the BoB and want a back ground story about the men who fought it this is a must.
Only wish there had been more portraits.

This an excellent book. I have a copy signed by eight pilots from The Battle of Brain. My Uncle was a pilot in B of B and so it is wonderful to read their stories. The Battle of Britain: Portraits of the Few

Chris Yeoman writes exceedingly well. This is but one of many books he has written and this succeeds in capturing the spirit of those dangerous times in the Battle of Britain, when the men he writes of were mere boys of between 18 and 23 on average. It is lovingly created as a tribute to the men named by Winston Churchill as The Few, who fought over that summer and autumn of 1940 in saving Britain from the horrors of the occupied countries who, in concentration camps, suffered torture and death. This was never experienced here due to the men that Chris writes about;Literally they held the fate of a Nation in their sweating palms as they fought and died high over the fields of Kent, Surrey and the skies over Britain in 1940. Chris has interviewed these men, known a lot of them over many years through events he has helped organise at places like Farnborough and this gives his book a personal touch that is lacking in some other similar works. He triumphs in getting these men to tell their stories where they are reluctant to "Shoot a line" and we are grateful as now these stories will tell of their deeds long after these heroes are no more.

There are very few books that tell their story so well first hand, from the pilots own mouths and that combine such wonderful illustrations, images and stories in setting the record straight. The book is wonderfully illustrated by David Pritchard a renowned artist who painted many of the illustrations of the pilots inside and also the one titled Churchill`s Few,(a limited edition print depicting Geoffrey Wellum, Bob Stanford Tuck and others of 92 Squadron) as shown on the front cover.

Chris does not glorify war, he just shows respect for those who had to fight it and his skill in writing their story, humbly and with attention to getting it right for posterity shines through.
