4.0 out of 5 stars Good start to HPC, Grid and Data Grid technologies
I bought this book to find out more about Grid computing technologies and it gave me a better understanding and the insight to certain vendors who provide grid/data grid solutions.

It doesn't explain much in details those technologies therefore it's up to you to find out more on specific vendors' products and try them out for your own business.

1.0 out of 5 stars "The Savvy Guide" is not really a guide
This book is touching everything in the field of HPC in a superficial way. At the end, a specialist finds out that it didn't add anything new to what he already knows. In a very few pages, the authors tackle the HPC, Grid Computing, Cloud Computing, and other heavy concepts. Besides, it is full of spelling errors, the grammar is not adequate; at the end, this gives you...

4.0 out of 5 stars Good start to HPC, Grid and Data Grid technologies, 3 April 2011
This review is from: TheSavvyGuideTo HPC, Grid, Data Grid, Virtualisation and Cloud Computing (Paperback)
I bought this book to find out more about Grid computing technologies and it gave me a better understanding and the insight to certain vendors who provide grid/data grid solutions.

It doesn't explain much in details those technologies therefore it's up to you to find out more on specific vendors' products and try them out for your own business.

As a Java developer, I learned more regarding grid computing and from this book I have explored and tried various products and gained more knowledge.

The book itself has got several typos and the reader is not not fully engaged during the reading. However, as long as you're willing to start your yourney in HPC and Grid computing, this is quite a good start from where you can develop your knowledge about grid computing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Good read, 16 Jun 2012
This review is from: TheSavvyGuideTo HPC, Grid, Data Grid, Virtualisation and Cloud Computing (Paperback)
Although the book was written in 2009, the topics are still very valid today, especially the section on Grid and Data Caching which provides a thorough architectural overview of the different topologies.

1.0 out of 5 stars "The Savvy Guide" is not really a guide, 19 Jan 2011

This book is touching everything in the field of HPC in a superficial way. At the end, a specialist finds out that it didn't add anything new to what he already knows. In a very few pages, the authors tackle the HPC, Grid Computing, Cloud Computing, and other heavy concepts. Besides, it is full of spelling errors, the grammar is not adequate; at the end, this gives you the feeling that the authors were not willing to exert real effort when writing their book. Being a researcher in the field, sorry to say that I don't recommend this book at all to researchers.

1.0 out of 5 stars Very superficial and lacking details, 9 Aug 2012
By
This review is from: TheSavvyGuideTo HPC, Grid, Data Grid, Virtualisation and Cloud Computing (Paperback)
The book is not a guide, its more a general superficial introduction of the ideas. There are other books that provide more descriptive and working examples. A friend sent me a copy and I would not buy it.
