As with every edition Where to Ski and Snowboard 2013 is once again easily the most comprehensive guide to ski resorts available. The book is excellently written and guides you through resorts in an understandable way using real experiences from real skiers and first-hand examples from those who have most recently been to the resorts. It is always up to date and their recommendations, be it for accommodation, food or an afternoon's route plan are nearly always bang on. For me the most impressive thing is how comprehensive it is - the book does not concentrate solely on the most popular resorts in Europe or Canada but deals in detail with many of the smaller, less well known and up and coming ski areas. WTSAS is great whether you're trying to decide which part of the world to ski in, which resort best suits your price range/ski desires and then where to stay and what to do once you are in resort. I read it every year and it gets me excited every year about where I'm going next.

This book is an up to date, extremely comprehensive, independent and well informed guide to the worlds ski resorts.
The guide is absolutely packed with useful information about all the major resorts in the world - the good things and (importantly)the not-so-good things about them. The reviews include detailed assessments of resorts, staying there and nightlife, the mountains, slopes, snow and resort extent, lifts and queues, skiing available for beginners, intermediates and experts, mountain restaurants, scenery and resort charm amongst others.
A starred ratings guide provides an 'at a glance' summary and each resort guide includes piste maps, lift pass prices, ski school reviews and contact details, number of lifts, how to get there, off mountain activitites, news of new lifts and changes in resort and more!!!
All of this is presented in an easy to read and clear way. The editors opinions and feedback from other readers are interspersed throughout giving a real feel of what a visitor will find if they go to the resort. It is also useful for both skiers and snowboarders providing reviews of how snowboarders are welcomed, where to find terrain parks and the best off piste in resort.
The guide reviews all the countries in the world where you can ski and snowboard including France, Italy, Switzerland, USA, Canada, Austria, Andorra but also provides summaries on Spain, Norway, Finland, Bulgaria etc...
The difference between this book and other similar guides is the attention to detail and that all aspects of a visit to a resort are covered - no aspect of a snow holiday is neglected. The ratings system and the verdicts on all resorts are simply the most comprehensive available today.
In short this is all the information that anyone needs, whether highly experienced or coming to snowsports for the first time. I have used this guide for the last 5 years and it gets better and better and would not hesitate to recommend it.

A useful and fairly comprehensive guide to ski resorts, detailed and covers pretty much most of what anyone might want or need to know, perhaps could have a little bit more information on the non skiing activities avalable for those who might be travelling with non skiers just to make decision making a little easier for the whole group.

Some resorts in USA and Canada not mentioned but overall an excellent guide

Probably the best resource book on any subject you will ever find. Yes, any subject, it is that good. But Dear Publisher, we don't want to lug a book with us on ski vacation. This is crying out for a digital copy. Pretty please?

A good reference for anyone looking to try somewhere new without the usual tourist blurb. Information on some resorts is a little thin on the ground, but the majority include piste maps, costs and speed of lifts etc that will help to plan your annual visit to the slopes. I would like to see more information in future on cross country routes, the book makes reference to them but detail could be much better to include severity, length and facilities on route.

I had a copy of the 2010 book and was very disappointed to find that most of this was exactly the same. While I didn't expect it to be completely different, most of the resort reports were exactly the same. The only differences were where there were new chairlifts or links to report.
Useful if you've never bought one, but don't bother if you've got an old copy.
