Like the first edition, this is an excellent book. Here's a summary of the information from the publisher. This second edition has been updated and expanded. It is 50% longer than the original book, and contains information on 30 extra crop species.

This review is from: British Field Crops: A Pocket Guide to the Identification, History and Uses of Arable Crops in Great Britain (Paperback)
Like the first edition, this is an excellent book. Here's a summary of the information from the publisher. This second edition has been updated and expanded. It is 50% longer than the original book, and contains information on 30 extra crop species.

The book is printed on gloss paper (which looks like it will be relatively waterproof) and has rounded corners to stop it being damaged when carried around in the field. It details the crops' correct botanical names, identification features, origins and history, uses, sowing and harvesting periods, estimated acreages planted and the regions in which each crop may be found.

It says that the book's content has been carefully updated using new information from farmers, commercial companies, agricultural industry organisations, academics and the latest research findings.

As before, the diagrams are excellent, and the book as a whole provides a wealth of information about the crops now being grown on British farms.

This would be a good buy for walkers, anyone interested in the countryside, and anyone with an interest (professional or otherwise) in agriculture.

Strongly recommended!

The book arrived in very good time and in excellent condition.

From a quick flick through it is obviously going to come in helpful out in the fields on tricky crops. OK most will be straight forward wheat but you never know what you might come across with diversification these days

This wasn't bought for me, but as a present for someone else. The recipient liked it and it arrived in good time.
