5.0 out of 5 stars Yorath's Knocking, 15 Dec. 2004
By A Customer
This review is from: Hard Man, Hard Knocks (Hardcover)
This is more than your usual tale of a former footballer wallowing in the nostalgia of past achievements. This is about the real life experiences of a footballer turned manager, who along the way of life's rich tapestry suffered the loss of his son and his marriage. Add to this a high profile drink drive case and you have ingredients for a totally absorbing read.
The author has approached the subject matter in a logical and open manner. Without a doubt this Grahame Lloyds best effort in a career of sports writing.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Greatest Welsh Football Manager!, 26 July 2005
By
D Williams "DW" (Wolverhampton, Staffordshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Hard Man, Hard Knocks (Hardcover)
Terry Yorath was one of Wales' great football players and probably the greatest manager the national side of Wales has had in recent decades. This book deals with many of footballs tragedies where Terry was involved, the Bradford City Stadium fire in the 1980's, the rise and fall of the Welsh national side which narrowly failed to reach the 1994 world cup, and most devastating of all, the loss of Terry's young son whilst playing football in his garden back in 1992. It is clear that Terry never loses the focus of describing the pain that he felt at the time and which he still feels today at losing his son at a young age. This book is a truly heart felt opinion on life's ups and downs of a true Welsh national hero, and is an inspiration for people who have suffered heart felt loss. A superb read for all.

5.0 out of 5 stars Comes over just like Terry himself - tells it just how it was ..., 8 May 2015

This review is from: Hard Man, Hard Knocks (Hardcover)
Having met one of my Leeds Legends on several occasions recently at Elland Road I just
had to read this book.
Comes over just like Terry himself - tells it just how it was during his illustrious days during
the Revie era.
Also gives a good account of his time at Coventry and Spurs - his along with his family's
love affair of his career in glorious Vancouver and his obvious pride in playing and being
skipper of Wales.
Shed a few tears when Terry tells of the tragic day he lost his beloved son and soul mate
Daniel during a kick about in their back garden aged just 15.
Terry is a hard man but a great reader of the game and very astute at assessing the
character of both players and managers both past and present.
Can't wait for next season to meet and listen to Terry once again in the Norman Hunter
Suite - recommend this book to all you will soon realise that Terry is not only a great
footballer/manager but a great and resilient character too !

5.0 out of 5 stars Fantastic, 14 Jun. 2014

This review is from: Hard Man, Hard Knocks (Hardcover)
Terry Yorath is the absolute hero of Welsh football. He captained the only Welsh national team to qualify for the European Championships, back in 1975 for that decisive game versus Austria, and then in the round-robin quarter finals versus the late Yugoslavia. Terry was an inspiration on the park and still is off it today. He was a mighty football player and he is a great man. This book is a must read.
