2.0 out of 5 stars basic beginners.
An easy to read book for beginners in druidism. Quite basic and not a lot to get you thinking deeply.

5.0 out of 5 stars The perfect companion on your Druidic journey, 13 Aug 2003

If you are looking for a guide to help you on your Celtic spiritual journey this book is the perfect place to begin. I have read other “How to…” and “Introductions to…” but none touched of the essence and substance of the Druid Way quite so clearly.
The authors provide a practical and often humorous guide to stating on the Way. You are shown that there is more then fancy candles and long white robes involved, without loosing any of the mystical elements.
This book is well balance for two reasons. Firstly they give an excellent walkthrough of all the basic elements of the Way, background, histories, the major festivals, myths, legends and rituals. However you can find those in any of the other books. What sets this work apart from all the others, is the way in which they look at the deeper issues: like truth and sovereignty, which are at the core of what it means to be a Druid or to walk the Druidic path. Secondly the authors come from different approaches to Druidism, which again provides an excellent balance to the text. One author works within a Grove, choosing to work with others, the other is a Hedge Druid, preferring to work on his own, showing new readers that there is more then one approach to practice their new spirituality.
Finally I must complement the authors, for their grounded and human approach to dealing with how one goes about telling others of their new found belief. It is a tricky thing for someone to handle and is often open to misunderstandings, but the advice provided is sensitive and practical.
This is a well-structured and finally crafted piece of writing. It is both informative and inspiring and will be invaluable to you on your journey through the forest. I can not recommend this book highly enough to both those begging the journey or those simply wishing for a guide to renew their interests.

This is an excellent guide and sourcebook for those new to Druidry but also a pleasure to read for more experienced Druids. The style is unpretentious and easy to read and there are lots of ideas for celebrating rituals and much background information.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must have for Druids, 30 Aug 2002
This book is a must have for Druids - new and experienced. It covers everything you need to know to get you started as well as providing food for thought for those who've been Druid for a long time. It is well written, clear and covers more than the usual beginners introductions. It's well worth the price.

5.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!, 25 May 2007

This review is from: The Path Through the Forest: A Druid Guidebook (Paperback)
Mr Talboys is a committed druid of more than 30 years. This book is a great and informative mine of information, particularly relevant to those considering druidry as their path, or those already embarking on the path. Nothing fluffy, and inteligible. Top marks.

It is very interesting to read several read different opinions about the ethos of becoming Druid and understanding the lore that is gradually being pieced together of this religion.

2.0 out of 5 stars Some nice info, but severely flawed., 28 April 2007

This review is from: The Path Through the Forest: A Druid Guidebook (Paperback)
Now the first few chapters I read were very good. It showed the authors have plenty of knowledge about druidism, ancient celts and related stuff. Where they gave an opinion of something it was clearly defined. 5/5 for that part.

After that the chapters became a subtle preaching in my opinion, which would still have been allright, however.....

The chapters became getting filled with false logic, wrong steps, no/weak arguments to substantiate point of views, their opinions were presented as the truth about matters. Contradictions in "facts" were made and more errors like those.

As the authors mentioned Truth is important in Druidry and as they also mentioned a lot of information about ancient forms of druidry have been lost. Then presenting their view of things as "the truth" is a violation of both druid spirit as what they claimed at the start of the book.

RATING:

**/*****

Nice facts at the start, and some at other parts throughout the book. The authors probably meant very well in writing it and they show they have substantial knowledge about the subjects. However they should have kept the book more in the style of the first chapters, by not doing so they pretty much ruined it.

For the writers: If you read this, I'd like to point out that either you should show the steps in your logic you omitted in the book, or if you don't have them, take a course in logic at an university. I see good potential, but especially on that subject (both of you?) can use more knowledge and wisdom.

Right now either the contents of the book are blindly accepted as truthful, which is not very druidic, or the book is useless because of the logical flaws and errors.

For potential buyers:

I hope the writers improve the book is there comes a new edition. Even if not, the book will give some nice introductory information of druidry.
