5.0 out of 5 stars beautiful, thought provoking, invokes a response, 7 Jan 2001
Familiarity can breed, not necessarily contempt as such, but not taking as much notice as one might. As someone who was brought up with the language of the Psalms, it sometimes takes a new way of looking at them to stimulate renewed interest and the kind of thoughts which cause them to be activated again into one's consciousness and lifestyle. Eugene Peterson's translation along with Anneke Kaai's artistic impressions come as a shock to the system at first, but this turns out to be no bad thing if one stays with it and follows the commmentary. In fact it provokes a whole new response in terms of striking at the heart and challenging one's mindset, as well as bringing comfort and encouragement at seeing how applicable these ancient texts are to our lives today. I am looking forward to looking at some more of Anneke's work.

As lovely a book as you could wish to own and great to leave by the coffee table for guests as well as hours of meditation on the inspiring and moving artistic impression of the Psalms. Thank you.Love it and bought one for a friend for Christmas as well. I just wish I could find a large poster of Psalm 147 in the UK
