Fenton here for the first time attempts to present an overview of the entire Dee diary material. Unfortunately due to the vast ammount of such material he is only able to present excerpts. This is not an unreasonable procedure, however the fact that these are not indicated by him in the text or endnotes, and his practice of excising large sections from the center of a day's entry, means that the reader is left in doubt as to the accuracy of the presentation. Thus we have what can only be described as a partisan interpretation of the Dee diaries masquerading as a presentation of the source materials. It is however valuable as it contains items from the private diary which Halliwell chose not to reproduce.
