3.0 out of 5 stars A thought provoking novel.
I really enjoyed this novel. The way Gibbon thought about the modern life in the early 1900's was just amazing. Through the structure of the novel the main themes are clealy shown to me, the end of a way of life, Nothing Endures and the love of the land. A really good read.

But there is very little published material to aid pupils, parents, and even teachers, in discussing this important novel.
It was a joy to find this slim pamphlet, which has been around, inconspicuously, for a while, to assist our son. Douglas Young, the author was able to pitch his reasonable-length analysis at mature schoolchildren, using plain language, rather than indulge in a prolonged, sophisticated literary critique. He not only lays the book open, but generates enthusiasm in his target readership, clearly fifth year pupils/students, for its many qualities.
