4.0 out of 5 stars Good walk but book somewhat out of date
This is an interesting shortish long distance walk through attractive but little visited countryside with interesting historical connections. We did one section on Easter Saturday and saw hardly anyone.

There was one section where we were more or less swimming in cow poo and farm litter but that is not the author's fault.

This is an interesting shortish long distance walk through attractive but little visited countryside with interesting historical connections. We did one section on Easter Saturday and saw hardly anyone.

There was one section where we were more or less swimming in cow poo and farm litter but that is not the author's fault.

The only problem with the book is that it was written 25 years ago and inevitably things have changed. For example, we wanted to visit Swarthmoor Hall which the book said was open on Saturdays. Not no more. Closed Saturdays, open Sundays. So use it as a guide but do your own research and you will enjoy the walk.

The books chosen - the rating says it all.
however, the walk books provided useful places of interest, the mathematical book was enlightening and the novels absorbing.

4.0 out of 5 stars Good couple of days as an alternative to the usual Lakeland walks, 10 May 2012

Previously unfamiliar with that part of Cumbria, I enjoyed this walk. The part from Grange-over-Sands to Cartmel was measured and made for a good brisk morning walk on day 1. I then caught a train to Ulverston for an overnight stay in the hostel to complete the coastal part of the walk the following day. Another alternative would be to stay in Arnside YHA and do Morecambe Bay cross bay walk to Kents Bank, which I did separately. Overall, I was pleased with the discovery of this book.
