This review is from: The Notorious Poacher: Memoirs of an old poacher (Field sports library) (Paperback)
This is a well written book and makes exellent reading for anyone who has an interest in the countryside and natural history. The author details his experiences as a poacher, spanning a number of decades, including narrow escapes from gamekeepers, the country police and other poachers. It explains the methods he used when poaching, which was a necessity due to the food shortages faced by country folk around the time of WW2. The book is humorous and paints a colourful picture of the life of the author and his poaching companions in North Staffordshire.
