4.0 out of 5 stars Excellent Biography of a Great Pilot, 14 Sep 2010
By
This review is from: Albert Ball, V.C. (Hardcover)
first read Chaz Bowyer's book on Albert Ball, 1996 and it's a great story of a young English pilot who rose to fame over the Western Front in only 15 months of aerial combat.

This is a well told and well researched account of a young British ace who died aged 20 but managed to account for 44 combat victories and was awarded the Military Cross, three Distinguished Service Orders, the Russian Order of St George and posthumously the French Legion d'Honneur and Britain's highest decoration for gallantry, the Victoria Cross.

This book is well worth the time to read and should be in the library of any serious aviation buff.

As usual with Chaz Bowyer, a well researched book. Albert Ball always appeared to me as a fearless young man so I was surprised to see that he asked for a break from operations after a number of missions (on the BE2c). I read this book in 2 sittings and found it informative and at the same time a good read not least because I knew how it ended.
Excellent read, worth buying

This book reveals how little the leaders of society valued an individual regardless of social standing. Never forget their sacrifice.
