5.0 out of 5 stars Spooky Kids read now!
An excellent comic series surrouning a little doll who seems to destroy everything she touches. Some story arcs follow Annabelle in unknown stories (not famous ones) while others take a dark look at existing fairytales, such as snow white and Cinderella. Well worth a look if the scary appeals to you, and if you always thought Snow White should have had a bit more guts...

3.0 out of 5 stars tries hard to be scary
The book is good but has some pitfalls that will make you lose interest.

The stories are sometimes confusing and senseless, but not in the funny and mindless violence you find Jhonen Vasquez works. Examples are the first two tales of Morgan, where things happen too fast and for no reason that annoys more than surprises. There isn't that twist in the plot that...

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing!, 26 Mar 2008
This review is from: Nightmares & Fairy Tales Volume 1: Once Upon A Time: Once Upon a Time v. 1 (Paperback)
Incredible storytelling and art that you have to take a few extra minutes to admire whilst halfway through the plot. Absolutely lives up to every single star.
A mixture of bizarre and wonderfully familiar stories. The chapters of Morgan and Dominique are completely new and are in themselves pure nightmares or if they don't scare you, they certainly have a charm to them. Old known fairy-tales such as Cinderella are re-vamped and made much more exciting.
A brilliant read, well worth your time and money.

There isn't that twist in the plot that would satisfy a curious reader, as promised in the introduction.

Also some of the art does not blend well with the story or the key horror moments of the plot itself. That japaness cuteness does not suit well the macabre, it mocks the seriousness and the danger that is happening and leaves the reader with confused feelings.

I do love the surrealism of some of the art in the comic (Snow White does an excellent job in creating that insane feeling).

Well thats just my opinion, you should give it a try if you have time and money to spare...
