Arroyo brings out the underlying logic and symmetry of astrology--demonstrating how the meaning of signs, houses and aspects are derived from the symbolism of the four elements. It's very persuasive--and grounded in a firm sense of humanism. If you are embarking on a serious study of astrology, or would like to get beyond a paint-by-numbers style of chart-reading, I strongly recommend this book.

In this book, Arroyo takes all the complexities of modern
astrological symbolism and boils them down to basics. His
writing style is clear and uncluttered with jargon. This is
not a "cookbook" to be referred to again and again for
the author's interpretation. This book teaches the
fundamental priciples of signs, planets, houses, and aspects
from which the student can proceed to make her own
interpretations. A real gem.

This book provides a useful discussion of the basic ideas of astrology by the application of elementary principles in relation to signs and houses. As such it provides a useful grounding in how to read the ENERGY in a birth chart. He develops key words and concepts to apply to signs and the astrological elements etc and also to the houses in a similar manner. The book therefore avoids the specifics of a cookbook and does not mention or rely on specific ingredients as it were to read a chart. The first part of the book. Is a rather rambling discussion of psychology which to my mind has not much relevance to the second half which looks at signs houses and basic principles. The book does not really take the concepts of psychology far enough and it does not adequately apply the concepts developed by Klein eg the development of the child from birth with associated ideas of identity dele ace independence and love/hate relationship to mother. Ideas of projection as might be associated with 1 and 7 houses aren't developed nor is the concept of the unconscious developed including ideas of repression and rage possibly expressed by Saturn and pluto. A useful book perhaps for beginners but only skims the surface of psychology and it's astrological expression in the horoscope.

This book is far too modest. It has as many uses as a Swiss army knife. It will tell you the first step in how Sun sign astrology is done in the newspapers. That's the money side. The spirit side is better. This is essential reading for anybody trying to come to grips with pre-Enlightenment ways of thinking. The four elements underpin astrology for the last 2000 years, early medicine, alchemy, psychology, the Mystical Qabalah and Hermetic magical paths such as the Golden Dawn and its offshoots. The elemental system taught here has equivalents in Asia but this is the form best known in Europe. You cannot duck this step if you want mastery of any of the traditions I mention.

I don't understand how it's come to be that this book hasn't been read by everyone with any interest in astrology, self discovery or psychology! Buy it, read it, I haven't finished it and already know it will be my astrology bible and one of the books I will never let go of!

Great book. In depth enough to keep it interesting, but written in such a way even I could understand as a beginner. Would highly recommend.

This book is timeless in its ability to serve humanity , it is totally holistic, and it has no boundaries or judgments,it is a beautifully creative wisdom filled connection to consciousness in its highest richest format, this all facilitates limitless growth for all who choose to have no boundaries or judgement in all there explorations.

Boundaries and judgement being something that could and has stunted humanity for eons of time in there ongoing quest for development and growth , something seen in so many other so called forms of expression with an often unsuccessful aim to facilitate holistic growth,

Thank You White Eagle Lodge for recommending this book as a part of the course on astrology that i am at present studying,

David
