5.0 out of 5 stars Survival Manual For The Coming Crisis, 15 Oct 2002
This review is from: Permaculture: A Designers' Manual (Hardcover)
An excellent, well written and to say the least, timely book. If you've found your way to this page, you NEED to read this book. It's full of practical advice, and above all else shows the beauty and integrety of the ecosystem that is planet Earth. Whilst highlighting our present lemming-like rush towards oblivion, what this book has to recomend it are its practical, common-sense solutions to our present environmental problems. As the auther himself says
"If every university on Earth was destroyed
we would lose nothing. If we lose the forests, we will have lost everything"
Read this book and invest in a future.

5.0 out of 5 stars The Book for Landscape Use and Planning, 3 Feb 2006

Robin Lock (Long Buckby, Northamptonshire United Kingdom) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Permaculture: A Designers' Manual (Hardcover)
This Book describes the uses of nature in the best clear and pragmatics way one can imagine. It doesn't mater were on earth you are the principles are so clear, simple and implementable by the everyday man that if the costs would be reduced it could be a book for Secondary level biology for all.
There will be a time many of us will loose this pragmatism and understanding of nature and its resources for the benefit of the IT World but what will really matter in the end.
Very Very good Book.

4.0 out of 5 stars Interesting information but not always practical, 26 April 1998

I found this to be a thoroughly absorbing reference - it was the follow-up to his earlier simple manuals that hooked me on permaculture 20 years ago...

4.0 out of 5 stars Permaculture: new world order, 23 Dec 1998
By A Customer
This review is from: Permaculture: A Designers' Manual (Hardcover)
The design system of Permaculture, mostly traditional methods re-incarnated by Australians, Bill Mollison and David Holmgren, offers the modern state corporatist world the best hope of making the transition from reckless and damaging expansionism to sustainable, productive, equitable and diverse growth. Along with dirty fingernails, a good old-fashioned (illustrated) gardening book, a large reference work on local plants, the Permaculture Manual is the central empowering information resource. Let us keep the environmental movement an active and popular movement, by doing things for ourselves, we resist the hijacking of the Green by the corporate-state nexus (ie Monsanto). Get that mulch on the ground, rotting......also, do a Permaculture Designers Course, it WILL change your life.

5.0 out of 5 stars A seminal book, 3 Nov 2011
This review is from: Permaculture: A Designers' Manual (Hardcover)
A book that I bought around the time of the First Edition in 1988 and which has remained, grubby from reading and re-reading, on my bookshelf ever since. The underlying philosophy and science of the principles of permaculture, Bill Mollison's clear and thoughtful explanations of those principles, and the hand-drawn illustrations make the book accessible to all. The breadth of vision is wide, covering almost all habitats on the planet, and the principles are immediately applicable to the smallest garden or the largest tract of land. Were his vision to be adopted worldwide, our stewardship of this planet would be transformed from a system of consumption of natural resources to one of the maintenance and renewal of those resources. An invaluable book for anyone who values this small blue and green island in space.

The person receiving it was very pleased with it. I didn't see or read the book so I can't be very specific.
Was very expensive, so really needed to be excellent.
