5.0 out of 5 stars Exquisite Book, 17 Nov. 2006

This review is from: The Monastic Diurnal: The Day Hours of the Monastic Breviary in Latin and English (Leather Bound)
I was scouring the internet to find a breviary from which I could say the Benedictine monastic day Office and came across this absolutely delightful edition.

The book is in Latin on one side with a devotional and traditional english translation alongside, beautifully typeset, well-bound, manageable, light yet strong, on excellent paper. I was aware of an Anglican version available, but have found that the Catholic monks of St Michael's Abbey, Farnborough, who produced this work, have excelled themselves and I couldn't be happier with my purchase.

An absolute must for anyone who wants to pray the office with the Order of Saint Benedict. Beautifully presented and bound. Fill a great chasm of a gap that has been crying out for attention for many years. The Latin is on the same page as the English (like the old Missals) and is a great help to anyone who stuggles with or is trying to learn the Latin. A great resource for Oblates, especially those who appreciate the traditional forms of worship.
The delivery was very prompt and the packaging was good. I would recomend keeping the box it caomes in to anyone who intends to carry the volume around with them. Covered in sticky backed plastic to make it more water resistant it keeps the book and your notes in good condition.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful Work, 13 Sept. 2010

This is a beautiful work, in the presentation and quality which is excellent. The binding is particularly impressive, far more superior to that of the English Divine Office by Collins - which is very disappointing.

5.0 out of 5 stars Beautiful book and very good value, 3 Dec. 2011
This review is from: The Monastic Diurnal: The Day Hours of the Monastic Breviary in Latin and English (Leather Bound)
This is a beautiful book bound in soft black leather and published by the Benedictine monks at St Michael's Abbey in Farnborough. While I can see that technically it is a paperback (in that the binding is flexible, like a traditional missal) that description really doesn't do it justice. The monks who produce this obviously do so primarily as a means of doing God's work rather than to make profit. Benedict XVI is encouraging catholics to pray the Liturgy of the Hours - if you are thinking of doing so then I would be surprised if you are not delighted with this edition. The additional bonus is that each time you pick it up you are reminded that the publishers themselves will be praying it along with you each day.
