4.0 out of 5 stars History brought to life, 30 Aug 2007
Snowman used this book as an opportunity to revise previously published "facts" that have subsequently been proved to be otherwise. The photography is, of course, stunning as one would expect in a book from the son of the founder of the Wartski company.
Included in this excellent book are pictures of some of the Imperial Faberge eggs that are often missed such as the Winter Egg and the Love Trophies Egg, along with "new" information (as of 1983) about them that has been learned since previous publications.
This book even includes an explanation of how enamelling is done and even how different colours of gold are obtained to decorate these sublime ornaments.
Any gripes about the book? No, not really. It's just that I'm greedy for colour plates of the Imperial Eggs and they are a little rationed here. I suppose it's because of the danger of repetition after so many previous books. Oh well. Still, a great book and well worth the money.

This review is from: Carl Faberge: Goldsmith to the Imperial Court of Russia (Hardcover)
Marvellous images of fabulous eggs, animals , ornaments, jewellery and all the other crafts that came out of the Russian firm Faberge in the turn of the 20th Century with thorough descriptions and back story for the people who spend their lives working on the most detailed beautiful pieces in recent history. Not an epic but a succinct look at the history of the Jewellers workshops and the magical creations they made.
