This review is from: Goodbye Baby and Amen (Hardcover)
This book contains a substantial number of Bailey's photographs that attempts to explain in its images less about what made up the 'Swinging Sixties' but who. If you were a star of film, stage, television, music or the media and wanted to be seen as relevant to that part of the sixties that reputedly 'swung', then you needed to be photographed by Bailey. Theoe are the images within the book.

Originally sold as a hardback, which was difficult to find as it was published in a relatively limited number, the paperback version was more available and affordable, and it was that which I bought. It is a fairly large book, but isn't unnecessarily unwieldy. It was quite a major book when first published and has some importance today, perhaps in a historical sense, somewhat more. Of necessity, in the passage of close to a half-century since the 'Swinging' commenced, some of those portrayed are no longer amongst us but many are.

As a retrospective of a relatively recent, although now bygone, age, it is worthy of purchase if a copy can be found. As a wide cross-section of Bailey's photography, it is a good source of a large number of images, most of which are rendered full-page. They do not come much better than this!

5.0 out of 5 stars Goodbye Baby, 17 Sept. 2003

This review is from: Goodbye Baby and Amen (Hardcover)
This is one of the first books I ever bought as a teenager in 1969. Being interested in fashion and people of that era I cherish this book and often read it again and again. The photography is all in monochrone which the reflects the popart of its time. Famous people like Rock stars, Models, writers, actors and many others during the sixites appear in the book, Some have since died but are idols of today. Anyone who enjoyed the sixites will certainly enjoy this book. Easy reading and worth keeping this book in your collection. A must have.
