This review is from: First Glance at Adrienne Von Speyr (Paperback)
Adrienne von Speyr may well have been the greatest mystic of the last century. This book is a fitting tribute paid to her by her friend, the great theologian Hans Urs von Balthasar. The book itself is truly extraordinary. It seems impossible to believe that you aren`t reading about Catherine of Siena or Teresa of Avila, but about a modern, married Swiss doctor. Her meditations and visions on " . . . He descended in to Hell" are amongst the most important Christian writings since patristic times. If Christianity, and specifically Catholicism, mean anything at all to you, please read this book.

This review is from: First Glance at Adrienne Von Speyr (Paperback)
Hans Urs von Balthasar received much criticism for his longstanding championing of the mystical writings of Adrienne von Speyr. He himself always stressed the strong influence she had on his own work so it is very useful for the student of von Balthasar to have access to a summary of this theological relationship in his own words.
