This review is from: Jung's Circle of Women: The Valkyries (Jung on the Hudson Books) (Paperback)
This is without a doubt a fantastic read, I've read a couple of other biographical introduction to Jung, by Anthony Stevens and Anthony Storr, and this a collection of biographical sketches of the women in he attracted as a circle of theorists complete with an assessment, glossary, bibliography and index for quick reference.

While I do think there is embarrassingly weak praise for Jung himself what emerges is the sense in which no man is an island, personally and professionally Jung developed with the assistance of those around him, who proved a counter balance to his questing introspection (I was shocked at the revelations that he kept a loaded revolver in a drawer, prepared that should he lose his senses he would commit suicide).

The first chapters are dedicated to Jung's wife and Toni Wolff, who it seems may have been Jungs mistress, in a spiritual and intellectual sense anyway and if not more. In this chapter there is tendency which remains throughout the book to leave the reader thirsting for even greater detail, it is not so much that the work is patchy or because of any literary qualms but the subject matter is so intriguing and interesting.

The text is developed from a number of written sources and archives, its well referenced with end notes and bibliography and also interviews the author was able to conduct with members of the circle.

I'd recommend this book to anyone interested in biography or Jung but also any general readers, each chapter is a real page turner and the pace is great. For the more academic or studious its accessible, the contents and index are fantastic.
