This review is from: Swords Against Darkness III (Mass Market Paperback)
(Note the cover shown appears to be from Vol 5)

After the disappointment of SAD #2, SAD is a welcome return to form. The contents are all good, and the poetry is short and quick to read (but probably good if you like that sort of thing). Drake, Wellman, Campbell and Madison were the best stories in the book, I think, and Poul Anderson's essay an interesting look behind the scenes. So you can see what you would be getting, were you to buy this:

"The Pit of Wings" (Ramsey Campbell)
"The Sword of Spartacus" (Richard L. Tierney)
"Servitude" (Wayne Hooks)
"Descales' Skull" (David C. Smith)
"In the Balance" (Tanith Lee)
"Tower of Darkness" (David Madison)
"The Mantichore" (David Drake)
"Revenant" (poem) (Kathleen Resch)
"Rite of Kings" (Jon DeCles)
"The Mating Web" (Robert E. Vardeman)
"The Guest of Dzinganji" (Manly Wade Wellman)
"The Hag" (Darrell Schweitzer)
"A Kingdom Won" (Geo W. Proctor)
"Swordslinger" (M. A. Washil)
"On Thud and Blunder" (essay) (Poul Anderson)

All of that was commissioned for this volume, and most of it not republished since. Vampires, monsters, dark magic - its all here, just waiting to be read.
