5.0 out of 5 stars Indispensible, 4 July 2009

This review is from: Masters of Jazz Guitar: The Story of the Players and Their Music (Paperback)
Outstanding. Just that. This is probably the best book on music I've ever read. It is a collection of very consistently good essays on all aspects of jazz guitar: key players, key movements like bebop, deconstructionism, European jazz...the book more than delivers what it's subtitle promises - the story of the players and their music. There is so much here on the development of jazz and how the guitar as an instrument contributed to it. And you will find essays on Charlie Christian as well as extended and really interesting accounts of artists like Marc Ribot. For me this book is indispensible.

This is an authoritative and well written book, beautifully illustrated. It was a much appreciated birthday present for one of my friends. The accompanying disk is a great bonus
