4.0 out of 5 stars An excellent real world teaching book, 31 Aug 2000
By A Customer
This review is from: Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects (DV Expert Series) (Paperback)
I really must take my hats off to Mr & Mrs Meyer for coming up with an incredible book. I haven't used After Effects much but by reading the book I've picked up so much infomation.
Not only do they supply excellent source material for you to learn and follow along with, but the CD also comes with a whole host of tech tips, which have been written from their own experiences.
This book would be a benefit to anyone who has a grasp of After Effects having read the manual and Classroom-in-a-book series. This book moves on from there and comes up with insightful, clearly explained teachings. (I really knew nothing about travelling mattes until Trish explained it clearly in the book!).
I would recommend this to anyone who needs to put After Effects to a real world use by applying 70% of what they learn with 30% of their imagination.
My only small grip is that it leans heavily towards the Mac and 3rd party plug-ins when explaining certain effects that can be applied to an image - but that's a small part of this great program and they teach the rest in a friendly, clear and concise manner.

5.0 out of 5 stars Must-have AE companion, 29 Aug 2001
This review is from: Creating Motion Graphics with After Effects (DV Expert Series) (Paperback)
Keeping it short, this book has answered literally thousands of questions I had regarding the more complex functions in AE. The examples supplied and the explanations given(all written in conversational English which is a welcome change)are excellent, not only telling you how to do things by the book but also the way they do it, why they choose that particular method and why it works better for them. It doesn't preach and it encourages experimentation, never suggesting that their way is the best. If you want your AE skills to improve in leaps and bounds (as mine have), you MUST buy this!
