Thoughtful provoking surreal and beyond this book captures the art of 48 artists in full graphic colour with several pullouts. The people who you may have heard of ;
Lori Earley
Travis Louie
Amy Sol
James Jean
Audrey Kawasaki
Marion Peck
KRK Ryden
Camile Rose Garcia

are mixed other splendid purveyors of dreams, nightmares and in between worlds.

Brendan Danielsons distorted and bloated chaotic families, Kukula's little distressed girls, Naoto Hattori's dreamscapes, Chris Mars tales from the dread. These are just random names plucked from the pages, for those who want more then it is well worth the asking price.

All complete with essays and commentary so valuable lessons can be gleaned from people who have ideas.

The value of this form of art is its engagement with the real world, its ability to create a distorted reflection of the perception which captures truth.

The thin wan bodies of the large eyed beauties freeze an anorexic fragrance disturbing and haunting. Alternatively they could be creatures from other worlds hyper sensitive lying within a languid recline. Either way they allow the viewer to project beauty or dystopia depending on a particular viewpoint. The other artists scratch beyond the facade of the 21st century family values to reveal a certain beauty in its ugliness. Behold the human animal. Whilst Ron Coms and Disney give us the eternal parade, these artists show the stitches where the razor blade cuts marked in vibrant red stitches reveal an aethetic in the incision. They also display the pain that wells beneath. This is a return back to the early forms of surrealism where there was an attempt to bring the dark shadows into the light, those area banished by over sanitisation.

This book is high on dystopic imagination.

This is an excellent quality piece and the artwork presented is stunning. Don't be alarmed of the blank pages within the book as I was, they turned out to be the bigger size artwork, when you unfold them. If you like art and want to broaden your horisons, this is a great place to start.

What a werd and wonderful collectoin of artists. Quality oozes from this book, dynamic layout (double page fold outs) and lots of imagery and a good balance of insightful interviews. If you love books and want to expand your mind with new artists this is the book for you. If you are thinking about it don't just buy it. You won't regret it, I can't wait for the next edition as I bought both volume 1 and 2.
