4.0 out of 5 stars Bruen on good form
American Skin is a slight departure from the other Ken Bruen novels I've read. For a start it's longer, and the stage is divided between action in America and Ireland - the latter being the usual stomping ground for a Bruen thriller. American Skin is a slight departure from the other Ken Bruen novels I've read. For a start it's longer, and the stage is divided between action in America and Ireland - the latter being the usual stomping ground for a Bruen thriller. The spare, lean prose is expanded slightly, and occasionally it feels like another writer is at work here. At times, it reminds me of James Crumley, or another of the American writers who were so good at detailing the lives of desperate, dysfunctional people and the landscape that shaped them.

Still good, but at times it feels like Bruen is trying just a little too hard.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great Writing, 2 Aug. 2013

I love the way Bruen writes and this is no exception.
The author is a legend in my opinion and I must say a BIG cheers to author Tony Black for the heads up on him.
