5.0 out of 5 stars Very useful for revision, 24 April 2011
Verified Purchase(What is this?)
This review is from: Aeneid: Bk. 1 (Latin Texts) (Paperback)
This book is half latin text (no translation) and half commentary so very useful for revision for exams; it's small enough to carry in your pocket so you can translate a page whilst you wait for the bus, get some food etc. It has the odd picture which can get a bit annoying but on first read it serves well to break up the text, and makes the book a bit less daunting. If you need a copy of the Aeneid for exam revision then buy this one, it helped me no end in my A levels last year.

5.0 out of 5 stars A useful commentary, 24 Oct. 2005
This review is from: Aeneid: Bk. 1 (Latin Texts) (Paperback)
This book is perfect for those who have done a couple of years' Latin. It contains the Latin text, vocabulary and commentary, with just enough explanation to aid reading the continuous Latin text. A very useful aid to that wonderful 'I'm reading proper Latin' feeling.

5.0 out of 5 stars Classical Latin made easy, 1 Feb. 2010

This review is from: Aeneid: Bk. 1 (Latin Texts) (Paperback)
This book first came out in 1946. It is remarkable that it is still available - a pleasant surprise.
The introduction gives a brief overview of the whole of Virgil's 'Aeneid' and information on the metre.
Book 1 is usefully divided into sections, with headings that give the argument.
At the back there are notes on difficult passages and an extensive vocabulary (one hardly needs a dictionary). There are line-drawing illustrations from classical times.
This book provides enough help for the ordinary student of Latin to have a go at reading Virgil in the original.
I recommend it.
