5.0 out of 5 stars Black British poetry, 19 Nov. 2001
By A Customer
This review is from: The Fire People: Collection of Contemporary Black British Poets (Paperback)
A showcase for the new generation of black British urban griots (story tellers), from political prisoners to rappers. Ditching the genre's traditional literary preoccupations, the new school uses Tupac and Tricky as cultural references. Hence rhymes about rituals (fighting juju), racism (on finally wiping the swastika from the bus stop) rawness, and rap.
