5.0 out of 5 stars Dejeuner sur L'Hash!, 30 April 2012
This review is from: Freak Brothers: No. 3 (Paperback)
Third in the Fabulous Furry Freak Bros. series and dig the cover pastiche of Manet's Dejeuner sur L'Herbe (c.f. Bow Wow Wow album)! For the uninitiated, this was an alternative/underground comic from the early 70s, featuring the misadventures of three hippies (freaks = U.S. slang for same): Phineas Freakears, Fat Freddy and Freewheelin' Franklin (q.v. Hells Angels' history) plus, of course, Fat Freddy's Cat. The stories tend to focus on our heroes' attempts to score drugs and f**k the system by many and varied schemes, which usually end disastrously. The humour is often slapstick and always hilarious and has stood the test of time remarkably well. Shelton has a fun, yet detailed drawing style and his work is probably the most accessible in the genre. Groovy!
