This review is from: Janet Kennedy, Royal Mistress: Marriage and Divorce at the Courts of James IV and V (Scottish Life & Society) (Hardcover)
An enjoyable glimpse into the irregular lifestyle of a Scottish royal mistress in the 16th century, at a time when marriage was much more of a movable feast than might have been expected in the strongly Catholic court. One suspects that the topic has been a long-term interest of the author, who has been content to see it published as a very slim volume. But with some more imagination and flair, it could have been expanded into a study of the Scottish court that might have found a much wider audience - or even used as the basis for an historical novel. How about it, Ms Barnes?
